Former Lokomotiv and Dynamo goalkeeper Sergey Ovchinnikov will be coaching in Russia’s Premier League next year. He has signed a three-year long contract with newly-promoted Kuban.
FC Kuban – based in Russia’s city of Krasnodar – was formed in 1928 and is one of Russia’s oldest football clubs. They have been promoted after finishing runners-up in the First Division. Ovchinnikov’s appointment makes him the club’s fourth coach this year.
The 38-year-old quit his career as a player in 2006 and is renowned for his hot-temper.
Since then he’s been working as an assistant coach, but now he gets his first chance as head coach with Kuban.
Ovchinnikov also played for Portugal’s Benfica and Porto.
